Sorbic acid is colorless and slightly water-soluble crystals. It is obtained from the juice of the octopus (Latin Sorbus, from which comes its name). Used as a preservative in the food industry (to extend the shelf life of products).
E 200 is characterized by antimicrobial properties, is not toxic or carcinogenic. In reasonable quantities, it acts positively on the human body: it boosts immunity and helps to detoxify the body.
In foodstuffs, the concentration of the additive should be from 30 to 300 grams per 100 kilograms of finished product.
